Filter Efficiency

Microns

A filter's efficiency is evaluated by the size of the particle it is capable of removing. These particles are measured in Microns. A micron is a metric measurement equaling 1/1,000,000 of a meter. For example, an average grain of table salt is 90 microns in diameter.

A Good Sand Filter--Will remove particles 30 microns or larger.A Good Element Filter -- Will remove particles as small as 7 microns.
A Good Diatomaceous Earth Filter -- Will remove particles as small as 5 microns.
